The site of the Pool of Siloam

The site of the Pool of Siloam (9:1-7) was not discovered until 2004 during routine maintenance on a water line in Jerusalem. For many years the pool that was commonly known as Siloam sat at the immediate end of Hezekiah’s tunnel and was a product of the Byzantine period. Empress Eudocia (ca AD 400-460) built a church and a pool to commemorate the miracle of the blind man described in John. In 2004 archaeologists Ronny Reich and Eli Shukron uncovered a pool that dates to the first century AD. It’s a short distance south of the traditional site.
