Alleged ancient signpost to the brothel of Ephesus
Ephesus, the fourth largest city in the Roman Empire in the late first century, is probably the city from which John wrote his three letters. The carved paving stone from ancient Ephesus was likely an advertisement for a brothel. John wrote to young Christians: “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does the will of God remains forever” (2:16-17).
